The Scientific Research on Yoga

yogaalliance_3 (3).JPG

During 2020, I hosted 70 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (CE) webinars on the current scientific research on yoga’s wide-reaching effects with Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

These webinars discussed yoga’s effects on topics such as anxiety, depression, aging, asthma, disease, and students. They were based on 25 professional videos Dr. Khalsa and I made with Yoga Alliance in 2019. Learn more about my work on the scientific research on yoga.

DC YOGA PODCAST

Started by Chris Parkison in 2018, DC Yoga Podcast features interviews with local yoga teachers. I was featured on the show as a guest and filled in for Chris Parkison as host a few times before officially becoming a co-host in spring 2020. Chris has paused the project for now; listen to our conversation about his starting his podcast, his yoga journey, and thoughts on yoga practice.

Television and other media

I was NBC4 Washington’s go-to expert on yoga and wellness and had a regular series of spots in 2013 and 2014. I brought on a demonstrator for most spots and explained alignment-aware, safe, and smart yoga to do (poses, breathing, and meditation) for certain seasons, conditions, or for other reasons. Search the spots here.

I was featured in the first episode of the PBS special None of the Above: Religious Implications, which interviewed people who don’t identify with a specific religious tradition. This reporting was based on the 2013 Pew Research report that describes the sociological phenomenon of the early 21st century called the N.O.N.Es (None of The Above).
