Utkatasana, Fierce Pose or Chair Pose

This one ⑁! To be really honest, I put this #utkatasana in my sequence for Yoga Journal sequence not because I like it, but because so many of my students do this pose by leaning way forward and ungrounding (untucking) their tailbone. I asked my teacher @johnschumacheryoga once how to convince people not to do that but rather to practice it the way we do it in #iyengaryoga, and he said without skipping a beat, “Tell them it’s harder this way!”

Utkatasana or #chairpose #fiercepose is totally awesome. I’ve personally learned to enjoy it by feeling the stabilizing parts of me #backmuscles @legmuscles in balance with the parts that get fired up #brain #heat. It’s also a well-known pose because of #vinyasa and #ashtanga. As I said yesterday, I put this pose right in the belly of the sequence because I want you to see how much this sequence tones the back muscles and the legs.
